Carrots: The TikTok Beauty Trend to Give Your Skin a Healthy Glow

Although this root vegetable has been a staple in North American diets for centuries, carrots are catching the attention of many on TikTok for their ability to give skin a sun-kissed glow. In this blog you will learn:

  • How to consume carrots safely
  • Carrot benefits and uses
  • What carrot juice is good for
  • Pulp & Press carrot juices

How do carrots change skin tone?

Carrots are rich in a nutrient called beta-carotene which is a precursor for vitamin A. Consumed regularly in large amounts, beta carotene can build up in your bloodstream[1] and actually begin to change your skin tone to a warmer, more orange tint.

That being said, extremely large amounts of carrots would have to be consumed in order to achieve this look consistently and too much of a good thing can be potentially harmful to your health. Since vitamin A is fat-soluble, (meaning the body retains it until it’s needed for specific functions) it can accumulate in the body and create imbalances in the skin when levels become too high.

Luckily only about 8% of beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A by our bodies.[2] But it is still important to be mindful of long term consumption and include other whole foods on a daily basis to ensure your intake is balanced, and you are receiving only the best from our new favourite superfood!

What are carrots good for?

Beta-carotene (and Vitamin A) are what we like to call antioxidant nutrients. This means that they have the ability to protect the body from damaging cells, support immune health and promote new cell growth. As a result, we can expect a great deal of assurance when it comes to disease prevention and even recovery. Additionally, these nutrients provide improvements to night vision, skin, hair, nails and bones![2]
